Objectives : Mathematical morphology appeared in France at the end of the sixties. This theory has since received much attention and is now object of research in many laboratories and intenational conferences. The morphology provides a very coherent theoretical framework for image processing and analysis. Based on topogical and set theory notions, its principle is to study morphological properties (shape, size, orientation,...) of the objects through non linear transformations associated with a reference object (the structuring element). This course presents the basic concepts in a rather general framework, then the classical tools of analysis and segmentation for image analysis. Practical works on machines allow the student to experiment and get familiar to fundamental notions on one hand, and to get involved by programming, in an algorithmical reflection of problem solving on the other hand. |
